Pedro impressed with Frank Lampard’s influence on the Chelsea team

Chelsea attacker Pedro has said that the players are enjoying the opportunity of working under new boss Frank Lampard. The Blues favourite was announced as the new head coach earlier in the month and since then, he has managed the team through the opening pre-season friendly against Bohemians, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Pedro said that the team were lacking fitness for the friendly while they have just begun to adapt to the manager’s style of play. The Spaniard added that he has been satisfied working under Lampard and the players should prepare themselves better for the forthcoming run of pre-season matches.

He said:“We’ve been training really hard with Frank this week. It’s very hard work, high intensity. We’re pressing a lot without the ball, when we’ve got the ball we have to move it quickly, and in transition (we have to be) very good. It’s very good to work under Frank. He’s a legend at this club. He’s a very good coach with very good ideas but it’s only five days working with him and for the future we have to prepare very well this month.”

With the Blues under a year-long transfer ban, Lampard does not have the luxury of pursuing new players, who can perfectly fit to his style of play. Nonetheless, he should be able to cope with the same after working in the Championship with Derby County, who had banked on a number of young loan signings to make the difference.

Among those, two of them (Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori) were from Chelsea and it would not be a surprise, if Lampard chooses to provide more opportunities to some of the young graduates. Still, the core of the team will be made up of the senior players and Lampard needs to find the right combination ahead of the Premier League opener against Manchester United next month.
