Fernandes pleased with Manchester United’s performance against Chelsea

Speaking after the game, Fernandes was pleased with the outcome of the encounter and talked up the importance of the win in the hunt for the fourth spot, he told Sky Sports: “I’m really happy. It’s a difficult game against Chelsea. They are a great team and we needed to win to keep fourth [place in reach].I think we can do much better with the ball but it was a good game against a good team. They are really good with the ball but we played our game and won. I feel good, obviously. I’m playing for, I think, the biggest club in the England and I’m really happy. It’s a dream come true.”

With the victory over the Blues, United have moved within a couple of points off the fourth spot while they are one behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are occupying the fifth position. At present, they can qualify for the Champions League by finishing in one of those places but the latter of those positions may not provide a route to the competition, should second-placed Manchester City successfully appeal against their two-year European competition ban.

United are scheduled to face Watford on their home turf this weekend and the game won’t be straightforward despite the Hornets going winless for the past four matches. Nigel Pearson’s side were one of the in-form teams between December and January and they can’t be taken lightly by the Red Devils. Prior to that, United will travel to Belgium to face Club Brugge in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie.
